Hi @markeloff,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP 15 laptop's RAM is overloaded even when no programs are open, there are several potential causes for this issue. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the problem.

Check Task Manager:

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc or Ctrl + Alt + Delete and choose Task Manager.
  • Go to the "Processes" tab and check which processes are using the most memory. This can help you identify any specific programs or background processes causing the issue.

Malware Scan:

  • Perform a full system scan for malware and viruses. Malicious software can consume system resources without your knowledge. Use a reliable antivirus or anti-malware program to scan your laptop.

Update Drivers:

  • Make sure that your graphics card, network adapter, and other essential drivers are up to date. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause memory leaks.

Windows Update:

  • Ensure that your operating system is up to date with the latest Windows updates. Updates often include performance improvements and bug fixes.

Disable Startup Programs:

  • Some programs may launch automatically when your computer starts, consuming RAM. Disable unnecessary startup programs:
    • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
    • Go to the "Startup" tab and disable any programs that are not essential.

Uninstall Unnecessary Programs:

  • Remove any unnecessary or unused programs from your laptop. This can free up both disk space and RAM.

Check for Memory Leaks:

  • Some programs may have memory leaks, causing them to use more and more memory over time. Keep an eye on Task Manager for any programs exhibiting unusual behavior.

Increase Virtual Memory:

  • You can increase your virtual memory to supplement your physical RAM. To do this:
    • Right-click on "This PC" or "My Computer" and select "Properties."
    • Go to the "Advanced system settings."
    • Under the "Advanced" tab, click on "Settings" under the Performance section.
    • In the Performance Options window, go to the "Advanced" tab and click on "Change" under Virtual memory. Adjust the values as needed.

Hardware Issues:

  • If you've recently added new hardware (RAM modules, for example), ensure they are properly seated and compatible with your system.

System Restore:

  • If the issue started recently, you can try using System Restore to revert your system to a previous state when it was working correctly.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
