HP Envy i7
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
So
I Put my computer in sleep mode and tucked it into my bag. As I get home and take it out I notice it's still on and REALLY hot. I opened it and I'm greeted by an "HP BIOS Update" screen (What.)

It Reads:

"The System BIOS is being recovered. The recovery will take several minutes to complete."

"Do not shut down your computer during the process."

"Writing new BIOS image"

"Block 293 / 2048"

"Progress 14%"

And it has been stuck on 14% for several hours.
I'm thinking of turning it off (by removing the battery if necessary), but I'm worried it might cause irreversible damage.

Please help me
Thanks beforehand

I understand that you put your notebook into sleep mode and tucked it into your bag. When you got home and took it out, the notebook was very hot and that it was doing a BIOS recovery.  It is stuck at 14% for several hours and shows the message to not turn off your computer. It most likely overheated as the laptop bag would several hamper the ventilation and the  notebook ability to dissipate the heat.  I suggest you try a hard reset.  HP Notebook PCs - Performing a Hard Reset or Forced Reset. Well, I need the computer for my everyday work, so I tried removing the battery and unplugging it
(I guess that counts as a hard reset)

I turned it on again an it worked just fine

Thanks for replying!
