I tried rebooting my laptop by pressing the power button once my screen froze. Then when I turned it back on, it showed “Boot Device Not Found” and only takes me to menus about what changes to make to my system. I don’t want to make any changes to my laptop and simply want to get in. Can someone help me with this?

@Madeline31, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP notebook is having trouble detecting the hard drive after a forced shutdown, which can sometimes happen if the system didn’t shut down cleanly. The “Boot Device Not Found” error usually means the BIOS/UEFI can’t find a drive with a bootable operating system.
Here are some steps you can try to recover your system without making permanent changes:
Hard Reset
- Power off the laptop completely.
- Unplug the power adapter.
- If your laptop has a removable battery, take it out.
- Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds to drain residual power.
- Reconnect the battery and power adapter.
- Turn the laptop back on.
Check BIOS for Drive Detection
- Turn on the laptop and immediately press Esc repeatedly (once every second) until the Startup Menu appears.
- Press F10 to enter BIOS Setup.
- In BIOS, check under System Configuration > Boot Options or Storage to see if your hard drive is listed.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
