Pavilion-15
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Hi,

in 2015 I bought the laptop from a website. The PC had a pre-installed version on Windows 8. I canceled the operating system time ago. Now I need the product key of win8 to have a discount for buying win10. I can't find it on any label on the laptop (there is only a label with the win8 logo). How can I recover the number?
Thanks, Giulio

Hi, Giulio:

The product key is in the BIOS.

I have zipped up and attached a free utility below, that will show you the product key in the BIOS and the version of W8 it is good for.

You can probably upgrade to W10 for free.  Watch this video...

https://www.zdnet.com/article/heres-how-you-can-still-get-a-free-windows-10-upgrade/

Just click on the blue Update Now button at the link below.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

If you are asked to enter a product key during the upgrade process, select the 'I don't have a product key' option.

I found the key of my current OS. Is "OEM key" the original key? Thanks

HP Recommended

That is correct.

When I run the report (mine has W8.1 Pro), you should see a similar description along with the key...

OEM Key: XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX

OEM Edition: Win 8.1 RTM Professional OEM:DM
