Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit)

Hello everyone.

Does anyone know a Compaq address that I can order a Recovery CD from please?

UK or France?

I can't find any info about this on the Compaq site.

It appears the Recovery 2 CDs I burned when I bought the laptop 10 years ago will not operate.

Thanks

Hi,

Did you replace the Drive in the machine?

You could download the iso for Windows 7 32-bit, burn an image to a DVD or USB drive  and then use the Key on the sticker to activate.

Hope it helps,

David

Thanks.

No I haven't done anything to it.

In fact it died on me a few years ago and I justdecided to try and repair it. None of the F1 or F11 options work.

Sorry I'm a technophobe, I don't understand your suggestion.

I just thought easiest option will be to write to Compaq and ask for a CD to repair it.

So,

When you start the PC what happens?

If you turn off the PC by holding the power button and then turn on the PC and repeatedly press ESC does the startup menu appear? Can you enter BIOS by pressinf F10?

recovery CDs will work if all the Hardware is OK and you can reinstall the OS. I do not believe you buy such CDs from HP for such an old laptop.

So you can download the iso on another machine and create bootable DVD or pendrive to reinstall the OS.

First, it would be a good idea to see if the hardware is OK. On these older machines one of the first devices to fail is usually the Hard Drive.

Thanks David.

The answer is no to your first two questions.

It offers me 3 different options to start Windows, each one fails, it tries to start Windows, but after about 10 seconds the screen goes black with just the pointer arrow.

It's an old Laptop bought in 2011, but it died only a couple of years later when I was using unsecured wi-fi in a town in Italy, the screen changed and I was prompted to click on an answer ... and that killed it, I assume it was a virus/hack? So all the hardware should be ok.

I have had a friend look at it but he can't solve it either.

The idea of creating a bootable DVD on my current laptop would be worth a try.

How can I do this?

Michael
