Envy x360
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Windows kept rebooting, so after several failures to solve the problem, I resorted to the Factory Reset option. However, once it went through its steps, Recovery manager tells me "Restoration Incomplete" and in the details "Bad Line in install.log file'. The only options I am given is to see details, save the log and Retry.  Retry fails.

What can I do here? I can install windows vanilla but I really want an HP build.

Hi:

If your notebook was made in 2016 or later, see if it is supported by the HP cloud recovery tool which you can use to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall W10, the drivers and the software that originally came with your notebook.

Here is an info link for how to use that utility...

If that doesn't work either, I don't think you will have any other option but to clean install W10 using the media creation tool and then install the drivers and available software from your notebook's support page.

Thank you! I'll give that a shot.

You're very welcome.

Unfortunately, that too got an error. 😛 It was cleaner messaging than the previous attempt but still an error. I did save the error logs but not sure what good that may do as they're pretty large-ish.

Sorry that didn't work either.

I don't know how to figure out what those errors mean.

I had that happen to me the other day too on a HP Stream notebook.

After several attempts of not getting it to work, I gave up and clean installed W10.

Works fine now.

I was hoping to avoid not having the HP tools on the machine as it's not that old (May 2018) and wanted to restore it to what it used to be.
