What is your machine running now ? Do you still need to run Windows 8.1 ?

(a) If yes you can use

           https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/software-download/windows8ISO

Note: this is not the first time therefore you do not need its key. Because the key is on BIOS, not on hardrive.

(b) If already upgraded to Windows 10 OR you wish to install Windows 10 (highly recommended), please use

       https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Machine will activate automatically using product key in BIOS (doesn't matter Windows 8/8.1 or 10) to activate for you automatically.

For hardware. SSD drives are very cheap now. You can use standard 2.5" SATA SSD, one example
