EliteBook 840
Microsoft Windows Vista (64-bit)

My EliteBook 840 was running with Windows 7.  The hard drive was damaged by virus, and, after trying everything I could, I, perhaps, made the mistake to erasing the entire hard drive.  I restarted from scratch by installing an old Windows Vista software, at least to get me going with some basics, before going to purchase a Windows 7 software.  The Vista OS is installed, but I am missing some drivers, particularly for the Ethernet and the Wi-Fi connections.  I have tried several drive files, but nothing has been suitable to bring the network communicaton features back to work.  I need some help, and I hope to obtain it from this forum.  Thank you in advance.

Hi:

You won't find Vista drivers for the Elitebook 840, not even for the G1.

I suggest you contact HP technical support for the country you live in at the link below, and order W7 recovery media, which should cost a whole lot less than buying a retail copy of W7.

I have an old business phone directory which hopefully still will work for wherever you may reside...

Have the serial number of the PC handy to give to the customer services rep.

You're very welcome.

Call this number, and you should be good to go...1-800-334-5144

Now, if you need to use your notebook until the recovery media arrives...

This site claims to have genuine, unadulterated W7 ISO files for download...

https://www.heidoc.net/joomla/technology-science/microsoft/67-microsoft-windows-iso-download-tool

Click on the link labeled Windows ISO Downloader.exe

Use the:

Win 7 Pro SP1.

Then you can use this tool I have zipped up and attached below to transfer the file to a 4 GB USB flash drive or a DVD.

When you are asked to enter a product key, just click on Skip, and W7 will install, and you will be able to use it for 30 days with no product key.
