Hi @Grigsby6,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Fixing an HP PC/device that needs repair typically involves running built-in diagnostics or the Windows Recovery Environment. You can often resolve startup, blue screen, or corrupt drive errors by testing your hardware, trying automated repairs, or using a recovery USB.

Step 1: Run Hardware Diagnostics:

Before making any software changes, verify if your physical components (like Hard Drive or RAM) are failing.

  1. Restart your PC and repeatedly tap the Esc key to open the HP Startup Menu.

  2. Press F2 to enter System Diagnostics.

  3. Run both the Storage Test and Memory Test.

  4. If either test fails, the component will need to be replaced.

For a visual demonstration of how to navigate the HP Startup Menu and test your hardware:

Step 2: Use System Recovery:

If your hardware passes, you can attempt to restore or reset Windows.

  1. Restart the PC and tap the Esc key again.

  2. Choose F11 for System Recovery.

  3. Navigate to Troubleshoot > Advanced Options.

  4. Select Startup Repair (or Automatic Repair) to let Windows automatically fix boot files.

  5. If Startup Repair fails, select System Restore to return your PC to a previous working state, or select Reset this PC to reinstall Windows.

For a step-by-step tutorial on navigating the Automatic Repair/System Recovery loops:

Step 3: Create a Recovery USB:

If you cannot access the F11 recovery menu, you will need to use a working PC to create a bootable Windows USB.

  1. On a working computer, download the Microsoft Windows 10/11 Installation Media or use the Rufus tool to create a bootable USB drive.

  2. Insert the USB into your broken HP PC and restart it.

  3. Tap Esc to enter the boot menu and select the USB drive as your primary boot device.

  4. On the Windows installer screen, click Repair your PC in the bottom-left corner to access troubleshooting tools.

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.

I'm an HP Employee.
