Hi,

I am trying to register my new HP laptop but HP cannot find the device with the serial/product number. When I get HP to detect device, it does (same serial number and product id), however when i click on add to my dashboard, it says added but on the next page it shows "no device on your dashboard". I have tried multiple times in vain. I am frustrated. When I tried to get virtual assistance, it asked me for the serial/ product no. and i went around in circles as "the serial number is not found". That is the correct serial number and ID. So not sure what is going on!!!

Hi @YOSHU,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Your frustration with the HP registration process is understandable. The issue you're encountering is likely a temporary glitch in HP's system or a mismatch in our database. Here are some steps to resolve this problem.

Verify Product and Serial Numbers

  • Double-check the serial number and product number:
    • Serial Number: A unique alphanumeric identifier, often starting with "CND," "5CD," or similar.
    • Product Number: Typically begins with a letter followed by numbers (e.g., 4QD65UA#ABA).
  • You can find these on:
    • A label on the laptop's underside or near the battery compartment.
    • In the BIOS/UEFI setup (press Esc or F10 during startup).
    • Windows: Open HP Support Assistant or type msinfo32 in the Start menu and look for "System SKU."

Clear Browser Cache and Try Another Browser

  • The website might be caching old data or having compatibility issues with your browser. Clear your browser’s cache or try using a different browser (e.g., Chrome, Edge, Firefox).

Register Using a Different Method

  • HP Support Assistant:
    • Download and install HP Support Assistant on your new laptop.
    • Sign in with your HP account and let the software auto-detect and register your device.
  • HP Smart App:
    • If you use HP Smart for printers, it also allows you to register HP devices.

Check Account Details

  • Ensure you’re using the correct HP account to register. Log out and log back in to ensure there’s no session issue.
  • Confirm your account is active and correctly set up with your email and contact details.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
