Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

I replaced a bad hard drive, but before doing so I downloaded the installed system recover to a USB drive and copied a system image to an external drive.  Trying to install the recovery and system imaging.  Have both USB and external drive connected to computer but when I power up I'm having difficulty getting to the  "Windows set-up dialog box, to then follow proceed to

repair your computer> Troubleshoot>Advanced options>System Image recovery, etc.

Should I have a separate file with the Windows 8.1 media on it?  I thought it was/is a part of the "system recovery" file.

Please help. Thanks.

Hi,

This set (USB) will bring your machine back to factory settings, including the ORIGINAL Windows version. I can't get a file with Windows 8.1 only.

@slydog214

How did you download the installed system recover to a USB drive ? You have to CREATE the rcovery media using the right process otherwise this won't work.

Also dow did you  copy a system image to an external drive ?

i Banhein,

I followed the instructions provided through my laptop to copy recovery drive where it states you're only allowed to make 1 copy, etc.  I also followed the Window system instructions through my laptop to create the system imaging file.
