well I findly got it to take a reset, the on screen type works, pointer works...even got the keyboard to work. Only problem is, when I type something the cursor goes back to the begining after each letter I type, so I have to type everything backwards. Not the same with the on screen keyboard, it types fine.

Thanks for the reply, Recommend you perform a diagnostics on the keyboard and touchpad by booting the PC to system diagnostics mode by tapping F2 on startup or using HP Support Assistant.

HP PCs - Using HP Support Assistant

HP Notebook PCs - Testing for Hardware Failures

To me, it looks like a sensitivity issue or a hardware issue with the touchpad. Please revert after running diagnostics.

Ok, did dianostics, did not come up with any problems. Removed drivers for keyboard and touch pad and reloaded them and now it seems to be working. I am putting windows 10 back on it right now and hope it will still work after that. Thanks for your response.

The only issue I am haveing with it now, is windows 10 is only going to 99percent and stopping.  I have seen many others have had the problem. It has been at 99 % for 5 hours now. Still at 99%, will let it run all night and see what happens in the moring. Thanks guys.

@RonK57, thanks for the response.

As you mentioned that the reset is stuck at 99%, this looks to be an operating system issue.

Some of the files on your PC has got corrupted please contact HP and order a set of recovery discs.

Install the operating system using the recovery discs.

Link to contact HP.

Have a great day ahead! 🙂

ok, it has been 22 hours that the notebook has been stuck at 99% complete for windows 10 upgrade from 8.1.  This was the 3rd attempt at windows 10 upgrade....using Microsoft's own site.  Anyone know of another place I might be able to get it from?  Merry Christmas eveyone.
