Product: HP chromebook

I HAVE GOT A CHROMEBOOK WHICH DOESNF HAVE A MICRO SD CARD SLOT.  SO I BROUGHT A SD CARD READER. WHEN I PLUG IT INTO MY USB SLOT.  IT DOESNT SHOW UP ON MG CHROMEBOOK.  WHAT CAN I DO SO I CAN FORMAT MY SD CARD.
