I'm going through the set up process (updating) and it says, step 1 of 3: downloading - 100%, with one bar dark but there are two more bars and it's not doing anything...is it froze or does it take a long time?

Hi @Sunshine1201,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I hear you need help with setting up your laptop.

Your laptop is likely downloading large update files in the background or experiencing a known visual glitch. The progress meter on the screen sometimes pauses, even though the system is working. Do not turn off your computer yet.

Let the laptop sit for 1 to 2 hours. However, if the screen shows absolutely no movement for more than 4 hours, follow the steps below to safely reset the process:

  1. Perform a hard restart: Press and hold the power button for 10–15 seconds until the laptop shuts off completely.

  2. Wait and restart: Leave it off for about 1 minute, then turn it back on. This clears the temporary memory and frequently forces Windows Setup to resume or jump to the next step.

  3. Disconnect peripherals: Remove any unnecessary USB drives, printers, or mice, as they can sometimes freeze the setup screen.

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.

I'm an HP Employee.
