I was using my laptop and it automatically shut off and started updating. The update took a few hours. When it turned back on it is only giving me the option to type in my PIN to log in. When I type in my PIN (it is the correct PIN), it says “This sign in option is disabled because of failed sign in attempts or repeated shut downs. Use a different sign-in option, or keep your device powered on for at least 2 hours and then try again.” I have left it powered on for 2 hours which did not help. It does not give me an option to change the sign in option to password. It has been a week and I still cannot get into my laptop.

I am sorry you are stuck for so long.
I think it is time to contact Microsoft support and see about getting back into your computer.

Both the "Power On" BIOS password and Windows logon passwords are affected by the restrictions.
NOTE: Do not respond to anyone who sends you a message (or email) claiming they will help you if you would just give them your private information and a credit card (or any form of payment).

Consider trying a Forced Reset (power reset).

A Forced Reset is NOT a “recovery” and does not remove your data – this reset merely forces the computer to load the Operating System from disk.
Forced Reset does not harm a healthy system nor does it “fix” problems not related to a clean start.
