Envy
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

On 20.8.19 I updated my Envy laptop (Windows  Version 1903 and the next morning all my gmail accounts and blueyonder account had disappeared.  I have tried to recover them but I keep getting the same error message "Something went wrong and your PIN isn't available  - You can reset your PIN going to Settings . Accounts .Sign in options

0x80090016".  I have gone into Settings > Accounts and changed my PIN but it hasn't helped.

I have googled the error message but I can't solve this issue.  Before all my emails disappeared I have had problems with my emails disappearing.   I don't know if the problem stems from the laptop not being able to recognize my face sometimes and my having to sign in either with a PIN or password.   Can you help please

Hey there! @xxenia,

Have you tried checking with the on-screen keyboard?

It sounds like you are logging into the local account and the not Microsoft account due to which you have issues accessing the email accounts.

Please try the steps recommended below.

To repair your PIN & picture password:

Open File Explorer and browse to this location:

C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Local\Microsoft\NGC

Delete everything within that folder

If you can't delete everything within that folder due to an Administrator error, rename the folder.

Go to Settings-> Accounts->Sign-in Options

Click Add a PIN again and set your PIN

PIN sign in should work going forward

If you still have issues try the steps recommended below.

Use on-screen keyboard

If your PIN is not working on Windows 10, you might be able to fix the problem by using on-screen keyboard. On the login screen there’s a virtual keyboard button that you can use to activate the on-screen keyboard. After doing that, use the virtual keyboard to enter your PIN. This is a simple workaround, but few users reported that it works, so feel free to try this solution out.

Press and hold the Shift key from the Keyboard and click on the Power button.
Click on Restart and try to enter the Safe mode.
Kindly try to start your computer in Safe mode from the Windows Recovery Environment.

Once you have entered into the Safe mode then, open Command Prompt and enable Built-in Administrator.
Follow the below steps to enable Built-in Administrator:
Open Command Prompt from Windows Recovery Environment.
Copy and paste the below command and press Enter.

 net user administrator /active:yes

Close the Command Prompt.

Try to log into Built-in Administrator and change the earlier password or you can create a new user account.

Let me know if this works!

Have a great day! 🙂
