I reset my laptop following the steps provided by HP to factory setting as I was locked out of my Microsoft account. After the reset my laptop has been slow. The browser (Chrome or Firefox - tried both) lag when looking stuff up, doing school work, and watching youtube videos. I keep getting not responding on the browser as well as glitches and lags in videos. It is also slow when i try to open up saved files on my desktop or even opening up the file explorer. I have also updated my BIOS already. Please help me figure this out.

Hi,
First, I would check if the hardware is all good, such as the drive. You can do the fast system test at boot.
Turn off the PC by holding the power button. Turn on PC and continuously keep pressing ESC until the startup menu appears and then press F2 to enter diagnostics. Try the fast test, or at least the hard drive test.
See if there are any hardware errors.
Next, I would see if Windows is completely updated and also the HP drivers and any software included with PC.
The latest Windows version is 1909. It could be doing this in the background and make the PC seem slower.
You can follow this guide here.
See if the problem persists.
Hope it helps,
David

Hi,
I did the fast test and these were the results:
Battery Check : Primary - OK(1)
Processor Check : PASSED
Wireless Module Check: PASSED
Hard Drive SMART Check : PASSED
Hard Drive Short SMART Check : NOT AVAILABLE (1: NOT AVAILABLE)
Memory Fast Check: PASSES (Tested 15.6 GB)
System Board Check: PASSED
System Fast Test: PASSED
I also ran the hard drive extensive test the results were:
Hard Drive SMART Check : PASSED
Hard Drive Short SMART Check : NOT AVAILABLE (1: NOT AVAILABLE)
Hard Drive Optimized DST Check : PASSED
Hard Drive Long DST Check : NOT AVAILABLE (1: NOT AVAILABLE)
Component Test: Passed
After this i checked for windows updates as you said and it is all updated to the latest version 1909 and check for any driver updates but they are up to date.
The issue is still persisting, what else can i do to fix this, since before i did the factory reset my laptop was fine and had no issues.

OK.
You see the short and long DST check is not available. This could indicate the drive has failed or maybe you have Optane installed?
Can you give the full model number (15-bI0XX is for a whole series) of the notebook or the product number? Here is how to find it.
so we can take a look at the specs of the machine.
Let me know,
David
