HP OfficeJet Pro 7740
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

A few weeks ago my HP printing app disappeared from my taskbar. I had to download and install the new Smart App.

I am finding it anything but "Smart"

It takes 90 seconds to engage even after having used it only moments before, With the old app I could start the next project in 5 seconds or less.

When scanning it does not display the scanned pages progressively like the original app did so if you have a problem you don't become aware of it until the entire job has completed. That's just total stupidity!

When scanning 2 sided there is no longer an option for "book" and it turns many pages upside down even though they feed into the feeder in the proper orientation. It NEVER did that with the original app.

My HP 7740 is just fine. We have it networked so my wife can use it as well, and I use it extensively.

This new Smart App has set my workflow back at least 6 years due to the complete evisceration of the program and the deterioration in performance it has brought with it.

Is there any way to get the old app back? It was fast and flawless or to get HP to fix this thing??

@jjaylad, Welcome to HP Support Community!

I see that you have issues with HP Smart App, there is no way we can get the previous version back. However, I'd suggest you uninstall and reinstall the HP Smart again. Here is how you do it-

In Windows, search for and open Apps & features. > Click HP Smart in the list of apps, and then click Uninstall.

Refer to the document HP Printers - Install and Use the HP Smart App for help in using the app.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hello TEJ1602,

Not sure where you are getting your information but it is completely incorrect. Through HP I was able to contact Service and they took over my computer an installed the correct HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 software. Now everything is working perfectly again.

The question becomes WHY did HP "Push" out that Smart App to folks who had the HP7740  on their system and remove the HP7740 app in the process. Might have been well intentioned for basic home use but the presence of a 7740 on that users account should have curtailed that push. That  Smart App has nothing to do with the OfficeJet printers. It is designed for basic home printers and probably does an ok job with those, but as soon as it bumps into the 7740 type of professional printer, it becomes entirely useless.

Please check with your management to get yourself updated about this, and you will see this is the case.

Thanks anyway for trying to assist.
