Hi, I wonder if anyone could help me with this. I am not good with computers and please explain it like you have to e plain it to a baby if you are will to assist. Thank you

S.M.A.R.T. is a utility that monitors drive health by checking parameters that would tend to indicate if the drive is malfunctioning and starting to fail.

It is not 100% reliable, but it is generally accepted.

If your PC is new enough to support UEFI, you can use these steps to test the hard drive: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00439024

If not, you have to follow these steps:
1) Press Esc key repeatedly, several times a second, while rebooting the laptop. Do NOT hold the key down, just press it over and over.
2) Eventually, you will see an HP Startup Menu -- that will look similar to the image below ...

3) press the Function key for testing the hard drive (usually F2) and let it run.

Please report back the test results.

thank you for your post. 

Yest it does show the start up menu then I press f2 and try to do a diagnostic test it bring a failure ID as you will see on the attached photo and it will not allow me to do anything else. 

I hope the emage is clesr enough to read the Failure ID Code?
