HP Spectre 15-eb0000 x360 Convertible Laptop PC RCTO Base Model

I have a spectre 15 that has had a few issues over the years and now will not give any kind of video output. The power indicator and keyboard backlight turn on, and the fans start spinning after it sits for a while, but the screen is blank no matter what I do and the HDMI port gives no output when using a monitor that works fine for other devices.

I have tried

- restarting the device

- leaving the battery drained for several days

- reseating the battery

- turning off, holding the power and f6 buttons for 20 seconds, then restarting

- booting with Win + B

- booting with Win + V

- booting to a recovery drive

The system responded as expected, i.e. when holding the power and f6 buttons it shut off after about 20 seconds and when booting with Win + V it shut off shortly and then restarted, but there was no change in either the laptop screen or the external monitor.

If there are no other options I believe it may be a hardware issue with the graphics card. I believe the laptop has a dedicated GPU and an integrated one in the CPU, is it possible that the computer is trying to use one and not the other?

If y'all have any potential solutions, please let me know.

Hi @Elder-ittehgapS

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for sharing all those details—it’s clear you’ve already put in a lot of effort, and I’m really sorry this issue is dragging on like this.

Let’s try a few more steps that might help uncover what’s going on, especially since both the internal display and HDMI output are unresponsive.

Possible Causes:

  • Display panel issues or faulty connections.
  • Incorrect display configuration settings.
  • Driver or software problems.
  • Faulty HDMI port or cable.

Troubleshooting Steps:

Check Connections and Compatibility:

  • Ensure the external monitor is compatible with the computer.
  • Make sure the HDMI cable is connected properly and verify that it is not damaged.

Test with External Monitor:

  • Press Fn + F4 to switch screen output to the external monitor. This combination toggles between display options.

Adjust Monitor Settings:

  • Ensure monitor input source is set to HDMI.
  • Adjust brightness and other settings on the external monitor.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Update BIOS and drivers if possible.

Reboot and Check BIOS Settings:

  • Boot into the BIOS settings and verify if any settings are incorrectly configured that might affect the video output.

Use HP PC Hardware Diagnostics:

  • Run a video test using HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) to determine if the issue is hardware-related.

Check for Loose/Damaged Connectors:

  • Inspect for any loose or damaged connections inside the laptop that might affect display output.

Inspect the Display Panel:

  • Look for common issues such as cracked screens or electrodes not functioning properly leading to a blank video output.

Test Alternate Ports:

  • If available, test using DisplayPorts or alternative connection options to diagnose HDMI port issues.
