I am having multiple problems. The first is that when I rotate my laptop screen around the keyboard does not turn off. This is a huge problem if I am trying to operate from my lap instead of on a table. The second problem I am having is that my screen rotation button is grayed out and there isn't an option in my settings for rotation lock.

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂
I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers.
As I understand the keyboard doesn't turn off in tablet mode,
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:
Did you install the latest drivers from the HP site?
Did you try uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers? (Click here to find and install BIOS, Chipset & Graphics card drivers update, if you haven't done it)
Did you try enabling the screen rotation in Tablet Mode?
While you respond to that, here's what you need to do:
The option may be grayed out, but you should still be able to click it, in order to enable the rotation.
Did you check to see if Rotation Lock was enabled?
If so, the option to disable the lock will not be active until flipping the device into Tablet Mode.
If you are still having trouble, then try uninstalling the Intel Virtual Buttons Driver.
If you are using Windows 10, then try going into the Control Panel, and select Display.
Then go to Change Display Settings, and select the option to allow the screen to auto-rotate.
If the issue persists, try the below steps:
- Win + R -> type 'regedit' and enter
- Registry editor will open up.
- Goto path -> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\AutoRotation
- Check the value of Enable file if it is 0 rotation will be OFF, if 1 rotation will be ON.
- Restart and Auto rotation will work.
Keep me posted,
If the information I've provided was helpful,
give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,
that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!
Good Luck.
