Sorry to hear about the coffee spill -liquid damage can be a real headache, and I know how disheartening it feels when your laptop suddenly stops responding.

 

Your HP Laptop 14-ep0792wm (Product ID: 9S498UA) likely suffered electrical component damage when the liquid reached sensitive components. The symptoms -screen blinking, followed by a black screen and shutdown- suggests to me that your motherboard, display connector, or other internal circuits or components may have shorted or been compromised.

 

If you haven’t already, here’s what I recommend immediately:

 

  1. Stop trying to power it on -each attempt risks worsening the damage.

  2. Unplug the charger and all peripherals.

  3. If you’re comfortable opening the laptop:

    • Remove the bottom cover (use a precision Torx or Phillips screwdriver).

    • Disconnect the internal battery.

  4. Turn the laptop upside down in an inverted “V” shape (keyboard facing downward) and leave it to dry for at least 48–72 hours in a warm, ventilated place.

 

Coffee, especially with sugar or cream, leaves behind conductive and corrosive residue. Once dry, it should be professionally cleaned and inspected -even if it turns on again later.


Repair Options:

 

  • HP Authorized Service is your best bet. They can fully assess what components were affected and whether repair is viable.

  • If you purchased HP Accidental Damage Protection (ADP) with the laptop, good news: coffee spills are typically covered under that plan. Check your warranty status: https://support.hp.com/us-en/checkwarranty.

  • If not, service costs will depend on the damage (motherboard or display replacements can get pricey, but data recovery may still be possible).

  • If you are not comfortable taking your laptop apart, another option would be to take it to a local laptop service/repair shop and have them evaluate/repair it.

 

Warranty Note:

 

Unfortunately, spills aren’t covered under HP’s standard warranty -only under optional ADP plans.
