Victus by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-e1000 (53G39AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

 Hello all

I recently restarted my laptop and now im met with a BSOD and a message saying win32k Critical system error, I’ve tried many online tutorials on how to fix but none seem to work.  Does anybody have any advice on how to proceed? I am okay with wiping the laptop, but it wont let me.

Hi @Micmommy

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how unsettling it feels to restart your Victus laptop and be met with a blue screen error instead of your desktop.

You’ve already shown persistence by trying tutorials, so let’s go step‑by‑step with methods that can help you recover Windows 11 even if normal startup isn’t possible.

Step 1: Enter Windows Recovery Environment

  • Hold the power button until the laptop shuts down.
  • Press the power button again, and as soon as Windows begins to load, hold the power button to force shutdown.
  • Repeat this cycle three times.
  • On the fourth boot, Windows should enter the Automatic Repair / Recovery Environment.

Step 2: Use Startup Repair

  • In Recovery Environment, select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Repair.
  • Allow Windows to scan and attempt automatic fixes.

Step 3: Boot into Safe Mode

  • From Advanced options, choose Startup Settings > Restart.
  • Press 4 or F4 to boot into Safe Mode.
  • If Safe Mode works, you can uninstall recent updates or drivers that may have triggered the error.

Step 4: Uninstall Recent Updates

  • In Safe Mode, go to Settings > Windows Update > Update history.
  • Select Uninstall updates and remove the most recent cumulative update.
  • Restart normally to test.

Step 5: System Restore

  • In Recovery Environment, select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > System Restore.
  • Choose a restore point created before the error began.
  • This rolls back system files without affecting your personal data.

Step 6: Reset the PC (Wipe Option)

  • If you are okay with wiping, in Recovery Environment select Troubleshoot > Reset this PC.
  • Choose Remove everything to reinstall Windows 11 fresh.
  • This bypasses the need to boot into the desktop first.

Step 7: Create Windows Installation Media (if Recovery fails)

  • On another PC, download the Windows 11 installation tool from Microsoft.
  • Guide: HP PCs – Installing Windows 11
  • Create a bootable USB drive, insert it into your Victus, and boot from USB.
  • Choose Custom install or Repair your computer to reinstall or repair Windows.

You’ve already shown determination by trying multiple fixes. With these steps—especially Recovery Environment and Reset this PC—you’ll have a clear path to either repair or reinstall Windows 11.
