Hi @RGoldsteinMath,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP Pavilion laptop is stuck in sleep mode and the power button isn’t responding. Let’s go through a few steps to get it working again.

    a. Force Shutdown the Laptop
      • Press and hold the Power button for 10–15 seconds until the laptop completely turns off.
      • Wait a few seconds, then press the power button again to turn it back on.

    b. Disconnect Power Sources
      • Unplug the charger/power adapter.
      • If your model has a removable battery, take it out and wait for 30 seconds. Then reinsert the battery and try powering on.

    c. Hard Reset (For Non-Removable Battery Models)
      • Unplug the charger.
      • Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds to drain residual power.
      • Reconnect only the charger and try turning the laptop on.

    d. Reset the Embedded Controller (If Keys Are Unresponsive)
      • Press and hold Power + Mute (or Power + Volume Up) for 10–15 seconds (varies by Pavilion model).
      • Release the keys and try powering on normally.

    e. Prevent Future Sleep Mode Issues
      • Go to Settings → System → Power & Sleep → Additional Power Settings → Change Plan Settings → Change advanced power settings.
      • Under Sleep → Allow hybrid sleep, set it to Off.
      • Update BIOS, chipset, and graphics drivers using HP Support Assistant.

I hope this helps.
