Dear Community Members,
I have a HP Pavilion g6 notebook running windows 7 (64 bit) at home . I plan on doing a clean install on to the Windows 10 professional software version. I have checked the Windows 10 hardware/computer specification as listed by Microsoft:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-in/windows/windows-10-specifications
I see all the specifications are met according to the above Microsoft requirements. I now plan to buy the Windows 10 install media DVD and the activation key to install the new media from a reputed e-commerce website . Is there anything else I need to consider ?
Please do feel free to share your inputs and suggestion. All replies will be highly appreciated.

Hi,
I suggest you to try to install a demo version of windows 10 and install all the correct drivers you find for your hardware, by check your hardware specs with a software like HWinfo and finding the driver on the producer website.
I said that because for hw produced before windows 10 there might be driver issues, since for example there are no specific driver for a component and maybe the general windows driver is not appropriate for it, so without try you can't know if it will work well(I just tell it from my bad experiences).

hi Dan,
First of all thank you for the quick reply. Kudos for that.
I currently use this laptop for my studies so don't have a handy system for testing this with the demo version. I did find some videos on Youtube wherein some users have already done this install . Could I therefore just directly try installing the windows pro 10 software directly on it?
What are the driver issues you encountered and which is the link from which I can get those driver softwares? Are these HP driver softwares free or chargeable?

Hi, @Veer89
What is the full model number or product number of your notebook?
Use this guide to find that information.

As dan_tis replied earlier, your notebook may not work right on W10 because for one thing, HP does not support any g6 notebook for W10, and for another thing, depending on what hardware configuration you have, there may be some devices that simply will not work on W10 no matter what you do.
So unless you got W10 Pro for free, I certainly would not go out and plunk down $239.00 for it if it won't work.

Hi Paul,
Thanks for your reply on this. Kudos for that.
My laptop product number is B6U28PA#ACJ . The specs match with the following document:

Request you to provide your recommendations.

You're very welcome.
Looking at the specs, and the parts list, you should be OK except perhaps in two areas...
1. The audio may not work.
2. The Broadcom 4313 wifi card may not work.
I'm not saying they absolutely won't work, but those would be the two trouble spots.
Now, here is a suggestion for you if you have not purchased W10 Pro yet.
There is a little known secret that you can still get the free upgrade to W10 by clicking on the blue Update now button at the link below. You would go from W7 Home Premium to W10 Home.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
Here is the article that explains how you can get the free upgrade.
https://www.zdnet.com/article/heres-how-you-can-still-get-a-free-windows-10-upgrade/
Test drive the PC on W10 Home, and if everything works, you can upgrade to W10 Pro for way less money than buying it from scratch.
You can do that as follows...
To upgrade, select the Start button, then select Settings > Update & Security > Activation .
Open Activation settings
If you have a digital license for Windows 10 Pro, and Windows 10 Home is currently activated on your device, you'll see one of two messages when you select Go to Microsoft Store:
If you see Install, select the button to install Windows 10 Pro.
If you see Buy, you may need to purchase a Windows 10 Pro license. Or, try to sign in to Microsoft Store with the Microsoft account that was used to purchase the Pro license. Then, follow the instructions to install Windows 10.
If you have a digital license for Windows 10 Pro, but Windows 10 Home isn't activated on your device, select Troubleshoot and then follow the instructions to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro.
If things don't work right on W10, then you have 30 days to go back to W7 as long as you don't delete any files.
Here's how to do that.

If the audio doesn't work, try this IDT audio driver from a newer model HP notebook...

If there are any devices with little ! marks next to them after you upgrade, let me know and I will see if I can help you find the drivers you need. W10 should install all of the drivers except perhaps for the 3D driveguard.
If you see an unknown device with a hardware ID of ACPI/HPQ0004, then you need this driver for it.
This package provides the HP 3D DriveGuard software for supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. HP 3D DriveGuard protects the hard drive by "parking the heads" if the notebook is accidentally dropped or is abruptly impacted by another object.
