The sticker on the bottom of this laptop reads:

Windows 7, product key: xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx, Other numbers: X16-96072, 00196-135-373-047

BLACK BACKGROUND, WHITE TEXT READS:

Product information not valid

The following product information programmed into the system board is missing or invalid.

System board (00A) - product name

System board (00A) - product configuration

System board (00A) - product serial number

System board (00A) - product number

ENTER - Continue startup

The laptop has given this error upon startup for some time now. I simply hit enter and continue. About a week ago I spilled a small amount of water on the keyboard and quickly tried to dry it. Since then, on startup, it gives me this screen but hitting enter does nothing, hitting f10 as it starts, nothing. I visited the tech center and it makes no mention of what to do if absolutely stuck on this screen. I have super important stuff I need on this laptop. Can someone please help me?

Hi @1Infms_inspctr

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

The message in your image indicates a “Product Information not valid” BIOS error. Specifically, the system board is missing or has invalid Product Configuration information.

This information identifies your HP computer, including details such as the product name, product number, and serial number. The error can occur after a motherboard replacement, BIOS servicing, or when the system's product information has become corrupted or was not programmed correctly.

Pressing Enter will allow Windows to start, but it will not fix the underlying issue.

How to resolve the issue

  • Press Enter to start Windows
  • If the computer continues to boot, press Enter to continue startup. Back up your important files before proceeding with other troubleshooting.
  • Check the computer's product information
  • Once Windows starts, restart the computer and repeatedly press Esc, then press F10 to enter BIOS Setup. If available, check the Product Name, Product Number, and Serial Number. Note any missing or incorrect information.

Could you confirm If the motherboard was recently replaced?

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
