It is possible that the touchscreen of my Laptop has a manufacturing defect because it occasionally freezes and doesn't click?

Hi @Jessicas68,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I'm here to help with issues related to HP products and services. If you are experiencing touchscreen problems with your HP laptop, here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

Troubleshoot Touchscreen Issues on HP Laptops

Restart Your Laptop:

  • Simply restarting your laptop can often resolve minor software issues.

Update Drivers:

  • Ensure that your touchscreen and other device drivers are up-to-date. You can do this via the Device Manager.

  • Go to "Device Manager" > Expand "Human Interface Devices" > Right-click on "HID-compliant touch screen" > Select "Update driver."

Enable/Disable Touchscreen:

  • Sometimes, enabling and disabling the touchscreen can fix issues.

  • In "Device Manager," right-click on "HID-compliant touch screen" and select "Disable device." Then, re-enable it after a few seconds.

Perform a Touchscreen Test:

  • HP laptops often have built-in diagnostic tools. Restart the laptop and repeatedly press the "Esc" key for the Startup Menu. Select "F2" to open the diagnostic tool and follow the on-screen instructions for a touchscreen test.

Windows Updates:

  • Make sure your Windows operating system is updated to the latest version, as updates can fix software-related issues.

Check for Physical Damage:

  • Inspect the touchscreen for any signs of physical damage or debris that could affect performance.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
