BIOS Version: HP V72 Ver. 01.10.00, 26.08.2025

This is my second question, the same one. The previous one ended in nothing.

(Here: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/The-Secure-Boot-update-failed-U... )

Now (after some lately updates) I have the following messages in Event Viewer (System):

Event ID: 1801

Updated Secure Boot certificates are available on this device but have not yet been applied to the firmware. Review the published guidance to complete the update and maintain full protection. This device signature information is included here.

The Secure Boot update failed to update SBAT with error Unknown HResult Error code: 0x800700c1. For more information, please see https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2169931

I get the result False after running the command:

[System.Text.Encoding]::ASCII.GetString((Get-SecureBootUEFI db).bytes) -match 'Windows UEFI CA 2023'

This command is from here:

Is there any one specific algorithm of actions to solve this problem?

@movoodoo, Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the HP ProBook 450 15.6 inch G10 Notebook PC.

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution. We hope our assistance has been helpful!

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing an error during the Secure Boot update. The error code 0x800700c1 typically indicates a problem with executing a file, potentially due to corruption or compatibility issues. Here are some general steps you can take to troubleshoot this issue:

  1. Restart the Computer: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve temporary issues related to software updates.

  2. Ensure Update Compatibility: Make sure that the update you're trying to apply is compatible with your specific model and correctly downloaded.

  3. Check Update File Integrity: If you downloaded the update file, verify its integrity to ensure it wasn't corrupted during the download process. You can do this by checking the file's checksum, if provided.

  4. Run the Update as Administrator: Right-click the update executable file and select "Run as administrator" to ensure it has the necessary permissions.

  5. Temporarily Disable Security Software: Temporarily disable any security software that might be interfering with the update process.

I hope this helps!

Take care and have an amazing day!
