HP ENVY m6 notebook
Microsoft Windows 8 (64-bit)
Hello,
I bought this recovery usb from HP windows 8.1 because I wanted to delete all files and start clear again due to issues with malware. However, after finishing the installation I’m welcomed by this message under “Recovery Manager” it says; the recovery attempt has failed. Select one of the following buttons:
-Save log
-Details
-Retry
So, I already Retry 3 times, setting the bios to default in case something was messing up the installation, but so far no luck...
If I click “details” I can see this:
Failed device #0:
Description : unknown USB Device (Devise descriptor request failed)
PNPDeviceID: USB\VID_0000&PID_0002\5&294B8D0E&0&7
Code: [43]

Everything else has the PASSED message
Therefore, I’m not sure if this error is due to the usb that I got is a 8.1 because in the back of my laptop it says windows 8. Can someone from hp tell me if is possible to exchange my usb this one costed me $50 and I don’t wanna buy another one. To be honest, I don’t even know why the system didn’t come with a recovery cd from the start? Oh yeah the cd-r was removed from these notebooks...
Thanks,

Jonathan C.

@Andre712

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂

I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers.

As I understand, Recovery failed on your notebook,

No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:

Did you run the system test?

Do you have any other external device connected to your notebook? Please disconnect any devices connected to the computer except for AC Adapter and HP Recovery Media.

Make sure hardware test passed on your computer. If you have not performed a complete system test, I would suggest you run the test:

  • Press the Power button to turn on the computer and immediately press the F2 key repeatedly, about once every second, until you see HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
  • From the UEFI main menu, click System Tests, then click Quick Test.
  • Click Run once.
  • While the test is running, the time remaining and test result for each component are shown on the screen. The test can take up to 15 minutes.
  • If no system component failed, please go back to main menu and Exit from the screen
  • If a component fails a test, write down the information so you have it available when you contact HP Customer Support. The information is also available in Test Logs on the main menu.

If the issue still persists, I would suggest you contact our phone support:

1) Click on this link - https://hp.care/2moMFSc

2) Click on "Continue as guest".

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Click on "Show Options".

Fill the web-form. A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

Run diagnostics and all came PASSED even the extensive step...
This is what I did to fix my issue;
I Inserted the usb and turned off the laptop.
Only now before turning it on, I pressed windows key + B key and then turn on pc ...leaving both the windows + B key pressed till you see a bios update window... after that the system will update the bios from your USB. I think you will only press okay at some point after that; do the same steps for the recovery pressing F9 ...then select the USB boot wait till it’s done. After that I think a complete windows will appear and you will remove the usb leaving only the ac cables connected to the pc. Now you will see the welcome windows.
So basically updating the bios helped my issue not setting the bios to default...
