HP 15-da0031la
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

At first "HP 15-da0031la. Bios Insyde F.17", then I installed a BIOS update F.47 Rev.A "Official HP BIOS" After the BIOS finished updating and the laptop restarted 3 times, at the end I got the following error "The selected boot debive failed. Press <Enter> to continue 〚Ok〛". Every time I press 'enter', the laptop always shuts down. It only had a BIOS update.

The only solution I discovered: You need to permanently disable secure boot so you can get into the desktop without any problems.

False Solution, Using CMD with administrator rights, This does not fix the error

       bcdedit /set {current} flightsigning off

       bcdedit /set {bootmgr} flightsigning off

Then once I was able to get in by disabling secure boot mode, I had to check the following to avoid doubts:

1) Correct GPT. ( storage disk )
2) UEFI boot (winload.efi and bootmgfw.efi).
3) Correct EFI partition.
4) bcdboot executed.
5) bootmgfw.efi with valid signature.
6) SFC clean.
7) DISM clean.
😎 BCD Correct.
9) BitLocker disabled.

10) Legacy Support: Disabled

11) 500GB M.2 SSD is healthy since it shows 100% health in the Kingston Manager

Addtional Data :

Windows 10 Home Single Language Edition
Version 22H2
Installed on ‎08/‎03/‎2024
Operating system build 19045.7548

Could you help me? Disabling permanent safe boot mode is not the main root of the problem.

Hi @ObitoandRin,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I understand that after updating your HP 15-da0031la from BIOS F.17 to the official HP BIOS F.47 Rev.A, the laptop displays "The selected boot device failed. Press to continue." You've already verified the Windows boot configuration and found that the laptop only starts when Secure Boot is disabled. Since the issue began immediately after the BIOS update, the next step is to check the BIOS configuration and restore the default Secure Boot settings.

1. Restore BIOS default settings

A BIOS update can reset or change firmware settings, which may affect how the system recognizes the Windows boot loader.

Turn on the laptop and repeatedly press F10 to enter the BIOS setup utility.

Select Restore Defaults or Load Setup Defaults.

Save the changes and exit the BIOS.

Restart the computer and check if the issue is resolved.

2. Verify the boot configuration

After restoring the BIOS defaults, confirm that the boot mode matches your Windows installation.

Enter the BIOS by pressing F10 during startup.

Open the Boot Options menu.

Make sure UEFI boot is enabled.

Confirm that Windows Boot Manager is the first boot option.

Save the changes and restart the computer.

3. Restore the factory Secure Boot keys

If the problem only occurs when Secure Boot is enabled, the Secure Boot keys may need to be restored after the BIOS update.

Enter the BIOS Setup Utility.

Navigate to the Secure Boot settings.

If available, select the option to Restore Factory Keys or Restore Secure Boot Keys.

Save the changes and restart the computer.

4. Repair the Windows boot files

If the issue persists, repair the Windows boot configuration using Windows installation or recovery media.

Boot from a Windows installation USB.

Select Repair your computer.

Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Repair.

Allow Startup Repair to complete, and then restart the computer.

If the laptop still boots only with Secure Boot disabled after completing these steps, please let us know whether the BIOS currently reports Windows Boot Manager as the primary boot option and whether Restore Factory Keys is available in the Secure Boot settings. This will help determine whether the issue is related to the Secure Boot database or the Windows boot configuration following the BIOS update.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day ahead! 🚀

Best regards,

Kuroi_Kenshi
