My issue was only partially resolved by HP. They required my to Recover my HP Envy OS. Then I started a Chat Session and they used an "LogMeIn rescue" applet to take control of my HP Envy computer. As best I can tell they only updated drivers to attempt to fix my "S3 Sleep mode". After the Driver update, the sleep mode seemed to work fairly well, but it would intermittently start using excessive power when in sleep mode and make the laptop "warm". I was not too impressed with their "Sleep mode Fix".
I did not like having extra software on my computer and so I did a "Clean install of Windows 10". The Sleep mode went back to not working. I then proceeded to update all my drivers. The Device Manager and the Windows Update showed all drivers as being up to date, but that was NOT the case.
I navigated to " https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers" with my HP Envy that needed the Drivers and provided all the information that they asked for, which included the serial number of my HP Envy Laptop. There were four more updates for my particular HP
I still have some problems with Sleep mode, but it seems to be operating as well as HP Support was able to achieve before I did my clean install.
I STRONGLY suspect that the main improvement in "Sleep mode function" comes from installing the "Display Adapter/AMD Radeon(TM) Vega 8 Graphics Driver".
Also my "Sleep mode" seems very sensitive to any activity on any USB Port, or any Notifications that it gets while in "Sleep Mode". It does not make sense to me but. . . Power consumption jumps dramatically when this HP Envy Laptop senses external activity or devices. It seem as though it is being woken up by external devices or even notifications, even though I have every available option to wake it from sleep turned off. Sometimes it goes back to sleep after getting partially awakened by the external device or notifications, but other times it just goes into some cycle that draws excessive power.
I hope that helps. I am frustrated with the sleep problem, but I have many other software problems as well even though I probably did about 10 HP Recovery's and 10 Clean OS Installs and I have bare minimum of software installed.
