Help PLEASE! The past month been receiving random message "Thermal shutdown occurred". Your notebook has been put into hibernation shutdown to avoid overheating. The system is now operating normally.

Overheating may occur if the cooling vents are blocked etc.

System Temperature (90D)

ENTER - Continue Startup

The system BIOS has detected that my notebook PC was put into hibernation or shutdown to avoid overheating.

The system temperature (90D)

System fan (90B)

I have done many research on this and the answers are not consistent enough, I only used my system to do my project and it's not up to 3 years since I was purchased.  And now if I on my pc it will show me this content above about "thermal shutdown occurred" and then turn off immediately it has been going on for I've three weeks now please help

Hi @Angelsmiles1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for explaining everything so clearly. Based on what you're experiencing, your HP laptop is overheating to the point of automatic shutdown, and the BIOS is reporting:

  • System Temperature: 90°C (194°F) — dangerously high
  • System Fan Error: 90B — The fan is either failing or not detected

This is not normal, especially for a laptop that's under 3 years old and only used for project work. Here’s what you can try to fix the issue.

1. Clean the Cooling Vents

  • Use a can of compressed air to blow out dust from the vents (usually on the sides or bottom).
  • Do this gently and while the laptop is off and unplugged.

2. Check for Fan Movement

  • Turn on the laptop and listen closely: do you hear the fan spinning?
  • If it’s silent or rattling, the fan may be damaged or stuck.

3. Update BIOS and Drivers (if it stays on long enough)

  • Go to HP Support on your Samsung laptop.
  • Enter your HP model (e.g., Pavilion G6) and download the latest BIOS and thermal management drivers.
  • Transfer them via USB and install them on the HP laptop — only if it stays on long enough.

4. Use a Cooling Pad

  • A laptop cooling pad can help reduce heat buildup, especially if you use the laptop on soft surfaces like beds or couches.

5. If It Still Shuts Down Immediately

This means the fan may have failed. In that case:

🛠️ You’ll need a repair:

  • Contact HP Support directly (since you prefer no third-party help):
    https://support.hp.com/in-en/contact-hp
  • Ask for a fan replacement or thermal system check.
  • If your laptop is under warranty, this should be covered.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
