Envy
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

New laptop, HP Envy. Locks up frequently and control-alt-delete usually solves that. The screen was not responsive, attempted to control-alt-delete and no reaction.  I attempted to shut down the computer with the off button, now I have a screen that says signing off with rotating dots and nothing can move it from that screen. Any solutions out there?

Welcome to the HP Support Community, @GerryM1

Since this a new computer, you probably haven't installed many applications and don't have information stored inside the PC. What you describe can be caused by lots of things such as corrupted user profile, Windows Updates pending to install or installing (in progress), some preinstalled apps, corruption in Windows, etc....

  • The easiest and fastest solution would be to reinstall Windows from scratch and replace the preinstalled image with a clean vanilla Windows 10 installation which is the latest version and which has updates built in.

Let me know if you performed reinstallation and how it goes.

Eventually, your issues should be gone and you can start fresh with your new PC. Enjoy !
