I load HP PC Diagnostic v. 6.5.0.0 from USB .  That is what gets installed by 3-in-1 Diagnosic tool at http://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/pc-diags.html (http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp82501-83000/sp82614.exe) .

 

It does not show Firmware Management, I found by accident, that "Firmware Management" it is shown, when F2 is pressed, while the software loads from USB.

 

I go to Firmware Management ->  "BIOS update", "Select BIOS image to Apply", select the .bin file and then the error messge is "The selected BIOS image was not available.  You may select an alternate image file, or cancel the update".

 

So, how to update the UEFI?

 

Renaming the file extension from .bin to .rom does not help,

 

When will the the maintenance at  https://h30492.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware/UEFI-Update/m-p/473719#M48084 be over?

 

I have F.14 and want to install the 081EF.bin file.

 

Moreover, the USB flash images generated by http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp85501-86000/sp85638.exe are not UEFI-bootable.

I had to use efibootmgr to reinitialize the EFI variables.

Did you try running the sp85638.exe  from Windows directly?

My BIOS updates have worked fine that way.

I don't have Windows.  Therefore I create USB image and want to upload the UEFI firmware from there.

Well, that is a gret reason! :generic:

 

Do like this:

 

1. Run the sp-package on a Windows computer and select the 3rd option..Create to be used on another computer or whatever it says

 

2. You should get two files, the .bin BIOS and the .s12 signature file. You need them both, copy them on a USB stick

 

3. Start your computer to be updated and keep hitting ESC until you see the Startup Menu

 

4. Select F2 for System Diagnostics

 

5. You are supposed to check the System Information and take note of the System ID to match your BIOS ID later  but for me at least they were not exactly the same, so who knows..

 

6. Select Firmware Management

 

7. Select BIOS Update

 

8. Plug in your USB with the two files and select Select BIOS image to apply and select your USB and then the image

 

 

If this does not work then we must think of something else.

I go to https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-15-ay000-notebook-pc-series/10862300/model/12614..., choose Windows as operating system, then I download the file http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp85501-86000/sp85638.exe .

 

7z e sp85638.exe extracts the file Insydeflash.exe (30134106 bytes)

 

7z e Insydeflash.exe creates this structure:

I think you need to do as per the instruction.

Start the sp..exe on a Windows computer and let it create the files (select the 3rd option)

After holding EST and choosing "F2 System Diagnosics", the "HP PC Diagnositc Tool" opens, v.1.12.0.0 . There I can shoose "Memory Test", "Hard disk test", "Exit" and "Language".   There is no "Firmaware Management" option.

Oh, oh..why do they all have to be different:smileysad:

 

Did you try running the second option of the sp on a windows computer, creating a Recovery  USB?

 

With the recovery USB it should work so that you tuurn the computer off, plug the USB in and hold the WinKey+B down and switch on the computer and wait until the BIOS Update screen appears and then release the keys.

 

On some models it is WinKey+V

After the UEFI update, the UEFI says there is no OS installed on the hard disk.  Going with F9 into the Boot Manager does not show anything.  However, if I put USB, enter with F9 the Boot Manager, and select "Boot from EFI file", I can choose the EFI file on my system.

 

Why doesn't the Boot manager show the hard disk, if there is no USB plugged in?

 

I have now BIOS F.41.

Do you have Windows installed on the system?

 

It may be that you need to let Windows repair it's loader in the EFI system partition.

 

If you can boot to Admin  command line and your Windows is on c-drive, it may be as simple as executing

 

bcdboot c:\windows
