Wonderful!  Thank you.  When I get the disc is it a matter of loading the disc in and it will walk me thru the install or do I have to "somehow" delete everything on my laptop and then put the disc in.

I'm hoping it will recognize that I am upgrading from XP to 7........  hopefully..

Thank you CherylG.

You will put the dvd in the drive and shut down the laptop. After a brief wait, power on and start tapping F9 key to choose to boot from the dvd-by using arrow key to move to and select/highlight CD/DVD. Then tap Enter key. The laptop should begin booting from the dvd.

You will delete everything on the laptop by deleting the partition XP is installed on-and any others. This Guide will walk you through it. Other than seeing "press any key to boot from cd" it should have exactly what you need. (remember F9 to choose cd/dvd on DV2000)

I think @CherylG alluded to this but there is no direct upgrade path from XP to 7. You will have to delete the old installation  and make a fresh install of 7. You can upgrade from XP to Vista and then Vista to 7 but that kind of double upgrade rarely goes well.

Thank you so very much!  I've completed the installation, I'm on the internet and setting up the system for our vet tech to use when she starts next week.  Perfect solution, so appreciate your time & input.
