Hello, new member here and in need of some help or pointers please.

 

The machine is a HP 255 G7, motherboard is the HP85EA and AMD Rysen 5 Radeon Vega.  Came with Win 10 but I’ve since updated that with Win 11 (25H2).

 

Been happily using a Dell D6000 docking station using DisplayLink drivers.  I recently tried to change this to a Lenevo one and installed the drivers but think I installed the USB-C drivers in error.  Now have a code 32 (driver for this device has been disabled) on all USB controllers in device manager.

 

I’ve tried removing and reinstalling.  Didn’t work.  Tried update driver, same thing.  I’ve checked BIOS and that is showing as enabled and UBSSTOR Start is reading as 3. The drivers the device points to are all present in system32/drivers/

 

I did run the AMD chipset installer which ran but hasn’t made a difference (AMD subsequently) advise against installing their chipset drivers as they consider this board as OEM.  I tried running HP Diags and that says hardware / drivers are ok.

 

I ran DISM and it ran Ok and reported no problems.  I am a bit of a loss now what to do as I really don’t want to have to do a full reinstallation of Windows.

 

Anyone else has the same as managed to resolve ?

I understand the concern. Based on everything you've already completed, you've done several thorough checks including DISM, AMD chipset installation, BIOS verification, driver reinstalls, and HP diagnostics. Since all USB controllers are showing Code 32 (driver disabled) after a docking station driver change, this points more toward a Windows driver configuration issue than a hardware problem on the HP 255 G7.

 

I would recommend working through the following steps in order before considering a Windows reinstallation.

 

Step 1: Remove the Docking Station Software Completely

Since the issue appeared after installing the Lenovo dock software, remove all related components.

  1. Disconnect all docking stations and USB devices.
  2. Open Settings > Apps > Installed Apps.
  3. Uninstall:
    • Lenovo dock software
    • USB-C driver packages installed with the dock
    • DisplayLink software (temporarily)
  4. Restart the notebook.

After the restart, check Device Manager and see whether the USB controllers still show Code 32.

 

Step 2: Remove Hidden USB Devices

  1. Open Device Manager.
  2. Select View > Show hidden devices.
  3. Expand:
    • Universal Serial Bus controllers
    • System devices
  4. Right-click and uninstall:
    • Greyed-out USB devices
    • USB Root Hub entries
    • Generic USB Hub entries
    • Any dock-related USB devices

When prompted, select Delete the driver software if available.

  1. Restart the notebook.

Windows should rebuild the USB controller stack on startup.

 

Step 3: Install HP Chipset and System Drivers

For the HP 255 G7, install drivers directly from HP support for the specific model.

Install in this order:

  1. AMD Chipset Driver
  2. AMD GPIO Driver (if available)
  3. AMD Serial IO components (if available)
  4. BIOS update (only if a newer version is listed)

Restart after each major installation.

 

Step 4: Check USB Controllers for Power Management

If some controllers recover but remain unstable:

  1. Open Device Manager.
  2. Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
  3. Open properties of each:
    • USB Root Hub
    • Generic USB Hub
  4. Select Power Management.
  5. Clear:
    • "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"

Restart and test again.

 

Step 5: Run Windows Hardware and Device Repair Checks

Open Command Prompt as Administrator and run: sfc /scannow

After completion, restart the notebook.

Although DISM has already completed successfully, SFC can still replace corrupted driver-related system files.

 

Step 6: Test in Clean Startup Mode

A driver service installed by the docking software may still be loading.

  1. Press Windows + R.
  2. Type: msconfig
  3. Select Services.
  4. Check Hide all Microsoft services.
  5. Disable remaining non-Microsoft services.
  6. Restart.

If USB controllers return to normal, re-enable services gradually to identify the conflicting component.

 

Step 7: Perform an HP Cloud Recovery Style Driver Refresh (Without Reinstalling Windows)

Before a full Windows reinstall, consider performing an in-place Windows repair installation using the same Windows 11 version. This refreshes Windows system components while preserving applications and files and can resolve driver stack corruption caused by third-party driver installations.
