I have a problem with my laptop.  it keeps making a USB connected noise when nothing is plugged in. i figured out that in device manager theres a  "USB composite device" is in universal serial bus controllers and its making the laptop think its a usb device and that its being plugged in. i tried turning it off, uninstalling it and the drivers, resetting the system but still nothing. i really need help. i need help uninstalling this device COMPLETLY from my laptop and so it doesnt come back. for now i turned off usb connect sounds and the notifications but i REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEALLY want this thing to be gone. and i dont have money for a new laptop. and the warranty is expired.

@Konek, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding USB Composite Device Issues!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Check for Updates:

  • Ensure your laptop's operating system is up to date. Sometimes driver issues can be resolved with a simple update.
  • Use HP Support Assistant to check for any specific driver updates related to the USB ports.

Verify USB Port Functionality:

  • Physically check each USB port for signs of damage or debris. Clean the ports if necessary.
  • Test with different USB devices to confirm that the ports themselves are functional.

Reinstall USB Drivers:

  • Open Device Manager, right-click on the USB Composite Device, and choose "Uninstall."
  • Make sure to check the box that says "Delete the driver software for this device" if it's available.
  • Restart the laptop to allow Windows to automatically reinstall the drivers.

Use HP Troubleshooting Tools:

  • Use any built-in HP diagnostics or troubleshooting tools to scan for hardware issues. HP laptops often come with support tools that can help diagnose hardware problems.

System Recovery Options:

  • If the issue persists, consider using HP’s System Recovery options. This can help revert your system to a state prior to when the issue began.
  • Ensure all important data is backed up before performing a recovery.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
