HP 15-d005tu
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I am trying to do a fresh installation of Windows 10 on my HP 15-d005tu notebook.

This was needed because the automatic Windows update was failing repeatedly, hence I decided to give a try for fresh installation and deleted all partitions to start afresh.

After all the installation finishes, when it restarts, it gave a screen saying 'Getting devices ready' and ultimately it gives an error prompt which says something like "Windows Setup could not configure Windows to run on this computer’s hardware".

I googled around tried to press Shift-F10 when the error appears and open command-prompt, but the command prompt did not open and the message disappears immediately and it simply shuts down. On booting up. it gives error saying that the installation failed and you need to reinstall.

Also tried to change the SATA Operation settings, but realized that it is not available under BIOS-Advanced settings.

Some other posts suggest that this could be the Hard-disk driver issue.

Can you please help me with this? I just hope its not real hardware failure as its 2014 device 🙂

Thanks,

-Sachin

Hi, Sachin:

Looking at your notebook's hardware specs, it should be able to run W10 with no problem.

The only suggestion I can offer, would be to load the SATA drivers at the beginning of the W10 installation.

I have zipped them up and attached them below.

Download and unzip the file to its folder.

Copy the folder to a USB flash drive.  Plug the flash drive into one of your PC's USB ports.

When you get to the part of the installation that asks, 'Where do you want to install Windows,' select the Load Drivers option on the bottom of that window, browse to the driver folder on your flash drive, open it and check the box to only include the compatible driver.

Click Next, and hopefully, W10 will completely install.

Thanks a lot for the quick reply.

I tried the steps mentiond to load the SATA driver provided.

It further went through exact same steps and same error appeared again 😞

Any other thing I can try?

Thanks,

-Sachin

You're very welcome.

The product specs indicate that your PC originally came with W8.1 64 bit.

Yes, I have one other suggestion for you...Try installing W8.1 and then take the free upgrade back to W10.

Download the W8.1 64 bit installation media from the link below.

If you know what version of W8.1 your notebook came with (plain W8.1 64 bit, or W8.1 Single Language 64 bit), download the applicable ISO file.

Download Windows 8.1 Disc Image (ISO File) (microsoft.com)

Use the Microsoft tool that I zipped up and attached below, that you will need to transfer the ISO file to a DVD or USB flash drive, so that it is bootable.

If you get W8.1 to install without that error, to upgrade back to W10, click on the blue Update Now button at the link below, and hopefully that will work.

Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)

Thanks again for the detailed instructions.

I was not sure about the original shipped 8.1 version, hence I selected the ISO for 'Windows 8.1 English' and ran through the steps to create the bootable USB disk(8GB capacity stick).

Unfortunately, it gave a similar error as soon as the installation started, without going through any of the steps to select storage volume etc.

Attaching the photo for reference.

Thanks,

-Sachin

Hi, Sachin:

Sorry that didn't work either.

Unfortunately, I don't have any other suggestions for you to try.

At this point, I suggest you google the error and see what you can find and also post your situation on the Microsoft Windows support forum.

Maybe somebody there has an idea that will work.
