Humor me and try anyway. 🙂 

 

I thought it sounded unlikely, but please - it's worth the minute or so to give it a try. Unplug, press power for 20 seconds (count slowly), plug it back in, see if ACPI returns. 

 

If not, I was misinformed and we can go back to the drawing board.

IF that doesn't fix the problem (and I have very smart people here who think it SHOULD), then run the UEFI Extensive Test. See 
http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03467259  (this can take about two hours, but should give you more information to work with).

 

Let's hope the hard reset works!

Oh my apologies if my last reply did not imply that I had tried. I of course did try. I want nothing more for than something to be a solution to my problem. I held it for an entire minute and nothing happened (as in nothing turned on or restarted). How will I know if the ACPI has returned? It may have returned before but I do not know how to check if it has returned and nothing has told me that it has returned (which I assume it wouldn't).

Oh! You should see it in Device Manager.  There are several ACPI related things under System devices (not sure which you were told to delete - hope YOU remember! 🙂

I'm assuming that if the problem is fixed, ACPI will reappear and your battery should charge and behave normally. If not, you need to run that UEFI Extensive Test and let us know what the results are. 

 

Is your PC still under warranty? (Not necessary for help, here - just thinking that the next step MAY be to contact HP Support, but we'll cross that bridge if we come to it.)

Oh, well in that case its there. It was the ACPI for the battery that I was told to uninstall and that it would reinstall when I restarted my computer. It is there so I guess it did that - but did not make any positive impact on my problem.

So the ACPI did reappear but it did not fix the problem. So I suppose I will run the UEFI Extensive Test and let you guys know the results when it is done.

 

Question, once I start the test, will I still be able to do work on my computer? Or will only the test be able to run? Just checking.

 

And no, my laptop is not under warranty still I think the warranty only lasts 1 year and I have had my laptop for 2 years now, maybe 3.

No, you'll not be able to use it while the test is running.

 

And it could be that the battery is bad or the system board - the test should tell us what's wrong, but you may need to send it for repair or start thinking about buying a new PC. 

 

The test should give us a full picture of what's wrong.

Okay thanks I will start the test soon.

 

I don't understand why the battery would be bad when it was working before I started incorperating the solutions? And I don't understand why I might need to buy a new PC when it isn't very old??

 

If what you are saying is true then why could this have happened?  And what laptops are good to buy so things like this don't happen? It seems really weird if I need to buy a new PC, my older laptops have lasted me 5 years.
