Hi @Deac73,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I understand how  it must feel when your USB device keeps showing “Device Descriptor Request Failed” despite trying multiple fixes. Let’s work together to get this resolved.

Could you please confirm PC model number?

In the meantime, here are some steps you can try:

1.Disconnect and Reconnect USB Cable:

Disconnect the USB device from your computer.

Wait a few seconds and reconnect it firmly to the USB port.

2.Try a Different USB Port:

Connect the USB device to a different USB port on your laptop. Sometimes ports can malfunction, and using another port might solve the problem.

3.Update Device Drivers:

Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.

Locate "Universal Serial Bus controllers" and expand it.

Right-click on the "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)" entry and select Update Driver.

Choose to search automatically for updated driver software.

4.Uninstall USB Drivers:

In Device Manager, right-click the "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)" and select Uninstall.

Disconnect the USB device.

Restart your computer.

Once the system reboots, reconnect the USB device to allow Windows to reinstall the driver automatically.

5.Check USB Hub:

If using a USB hub, try connecting the device directly to the computer instead. If this resolves the issue, the hub may be faulty or not be providing enough power.

6.Update Windows:

Ensure that your Windows is up-to-date with the latest updates, as they may contain important driver updates and bug fixes.

I hope this helps.

I'm an HP Employee.
