Hi
I have a HP laptop x360 model 13-s102ns. It has run Linux for years. It seems I have not updated the bios/firmware for too long and now I get errors when trying to update the OS and a message saying that the time period to update for some errata has passed. I can boot the new OS from the USB (but not install it) or run the old Linux version.
I have tried to look on ways of updating the BIOS and firmware, but none have work. I'll list what I have tried so far:
1. Update from BIOS with a USB memory stick. My BIOS does not seem to have the option of updating from the BIOS.
2. Start the computer while holding WinKey + B. I don't boot into HP recovery, the screen remains off while the light of the Cap Lock key blinks slowly. I have left the computer in that state for 10 minutes, no change.
3. Start the computer while holding WinKey + V. The system boots normally from hard drive.
Options I have yet to try:
1. I am on my way to a friends house who has a Windows machine. I will create a USB boot disk with the new bios as per instructions (https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02693833#usbrecovery) and will try to boot the computer with the recovery USB plugged in and holding WinKey + B, as per instructions on the webpage (I will try WinKey + V too but B more likely).
2. Try to install Windows and update. I don't mind wiping the hard drive as I have saved everything, but I am not even sure Windows will install. Plus I do not have a copy of windows, I would have to download some trial version.
Is there any other option that I am missing and that would help in my case?
Thanks,

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.
I appreciate your efforts to try and resolve the issue. This sounds like the operating system is not installed correctly due to that computer is not booting into desktop.
The last thing I can suggest trying to restore computer back to the factory settings. Performing an HP system recovery (Windows)
The HP Cloud Recovery Tool allows you to download recovery software to a USB drive. You can use the downloaded recovery image file in order to install the Windows operating system.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
