Hello Community,
I own a HP Pavilion Dv5-1017nr, and recently upgraded my OS to Windows 10 (64-bit). After the upgrade, everything was great untill I plugged my notebook to my TV. I hear no audio from the TV, so I posted a question here explaining the issue on this thread. Sadly, I haven't received any replies on that post yet 😞
In the meantime, I contacted NVIDIA Support for help, they asked me to perform several test with no luck solving the issue, and right now they are suggesting me to upgrade my BIOS.
But when I go to HP's website I can't find any drivers for my notebook on https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers. When I type my Service Tag or Product Number, it says:
"We were unable to find drivers for your product.
Try manually selecting your operating system. If your operating system is not listed then HP may not provide driver support for your product with that operating system."
Could you help me to find the latest BIOS version for my notebook? Here are the specs:
Product name: HP Pavilion dv5 Notebook PC
Product number: FE864UA#ABA
Model: HP Pavilion dv5-1017nr
Current BIOS version: F.05 - 06/08/2008
Current OS: Windows 10 (64-bit)
Thank you!!

Hi:
HP retires support for all consumer class products that have reached the 10 year mark, which is why you can't find any drivers for your notebook.
The newest BIOS is F.21, but since you are running W10, and the BIOS update was written to be run on W7, I don't recommend you update the BIOS, or you may end up with a much worse problem than you have now...a completely dead notebook.
If you want to go back and install W7 or Vista, here is the link to the update file.
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp45001-45500/sp45138.exe
I read your post regarding the graphics driver.
The actual W7 driver you need for your model notebook is this one, so you may want to try it out.
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp41501-42000/sp41696.exe
See if you get better results from this driver.
If you continue to have display issues and have to install the driver that W10 installs, then let that happen but don't use the drivers from Nvidia.
If the sound goes out with the new driver, try just manually installing the audio driver from the above SP.
If you do not delete the SWSetup folder, you can try manually updating just the Nvidia HD audio driver to that old version by going to the device manager, click to expand the Sound, video and game controllers device manager category.
Click on the nvidia HD audio device listed there (it might just be labeled as a generic HD audio device) click on the driver tab, click in Update driver. Select the Browse my computer for drivers option, and browse to the graphics driver folder that was created when you ran the file. That folder will be located in C:\SWSetup\sp41696. Make sure the Include subfolders box is checked and the driver should install.
Then restart the PC and see if your setup works with the new graphics driver and the old HDMI audio driver.
Or you can just download and unzip the Nvidia HD audio driver file I pulled out of the above driver file and attached below.

Hello @Paul,
Thank you for your quick reply to both questions. I successfully updated my BIOS to ver. F.21 with the link you provided.
I formatted the hard drive, went back and installed W7, in order to run the setup over that OS without risks.
As for the display driver issue from my other post, before downgrading to W7 I tried your suggestion and installed the SP you found for me, but ended with performance problems (slow PC, didn't show all background colors, etc.), although audio worked on TV as a charm! lol...
Long story short, thanks to your idea of manually selecting the folder to install the HD Audio Driver, I did the same thing but with the Nvidia Display Driver, narrowing the folder to search for the Display Driver only, so it didn't update the HD Audio nor install the other features like Geforce Experience and so on. That did the trick!
Returning to the purpose of this thread, BIOS worked great after upgrading again to W10, so I'm going to mark it as Solved. I'll explain the steps I followed for the Display Driver on my other post so if anyone else has that issue too, knows what worked for me. Thanks again!
