Your i7‑4702MQ laptop can upgrade to Windows 10 (but not Windows 11). The safest and most compatible path is a clean install of Windows 10 using a bootable USB. Check this video to create bootable USB, Download the Windows 10 ISO from Microsoft and use Rufus on Windows 7 to make a bootable USB. 

You’re currently on Windows 7, which has been unsupported since January 2020 and is much more exposed to security risks than Windows 10. Windows 10 itself reached end of mainstream support on October 14, 2025, so it no longer gets regular feature or security updates, but it’s still a significant security improvement over Windows 7.

To keep it fast, optimize it by disabling unnecessary startup apps, turning off unused visual effects, uninstalling apps you don’t use, running Storage Sense/Disk Cleanup, and being careful with aggressive “debloat” tweaks or disabling system services unless you know exactly what they do. Many youtube video available on this topic you can check if your want.

There are some additional things you should be aware of if you want to install W10 or W11 (yes W11) on your PC:

If you do not have a legitimate W10 product key, you can use to install W10 you will have to pay for one because Microsoft ended the free upgrade from W7/W8/W8.1>W10 several years ago.

Microsoft does provide free extended security support for W10 through October of 2027.

I am running W11 on PC's just fine with Intel 2nd gen core processors and I have a notebook with an Intel 4th gen core processor like yours that runs W11 just fine.

But the key factor in doing any OS upgrade is you will have to pay for a new OS,

If you are unwilling to buy a new OS, then I suggest you remain on W7.
