Want to update BIOS - Pavilion DV7-6b32US

Hello,

I am a Level 1 corp computer suppt analyst with 25 yrs in the business, so I am extremely tech savvy.  That being said I am running a legacy BIOS and want to see if there is a UEFI version available for my Pavilion DV7 laptop.  The problem is the laptop came with Win7 and I did the free upgrade to Win10 a very long time ago and as such the HP support site refuses to provide me any sort of accessible list of drivers & software.  The message it gives me is something to the effect of cannot detect due to it running a different OS than Win7 and when I try the manual entry of my Win10 I only get Win7 in the list and it then tells me that they will not provide drivers to units issued before 2013 because they claim that the drivers come through windows update now.  

If that is the case then why do I show a BIOS date of 2013 and have it calling it "Legacy" in my SysInfo?  I also tried to update it through the device manager and when I look for the firmware category there is no firmware category.

I am going to school now for several CompTIA courses including A+ and I would like to know that my machine is as up to date as possible and would like the experience of performing a BIOS update.  The last time I did one was maybe 6 or 7 years ago on a desktop tower that I performed using the - get ready for this - floppy drive!  ROFL which was before UEFI was even really widely discussed or possibly even available.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe I did not understand, but the bios cannot be updated from the device manager.
Unless there is an important reason, you should avoid playing with bios, it is often risky, there are many feedback from users where things go wrong.

That said, when we look at the product page, the last available bios

There will most certainly not be any others given the age of the pc.
to know all the same that although that will not change anything with the problem, I think ...

it is often possible to install a bios envisaged under w8 with windows 10 installed

Please accept in advance my apologies for any potential typographical error‘s but I use Siri to dictate using either my iPhone or my iPad and she has a habit of being ridiculous.

The directions to update through the device manager came directly from the information from  HP using links provided when I could not do the research normally. I use their troubleshooter that was provided and there was a link for updating bios and it showed many options including updating through device manager, updating through system info information and updating three USB. The USB is very definitely out of the question because I cannot get at a list of drivers available for my machine even just to read information on it because it refuses to analyze my machine and give me that list. According to the information on my machine it’s self through system info it tells me that my Bios dates all the way back to 2013 and I find it hard to believe, as a tech, that there have been no update to the bios since 2013 and even though this machine maybe old and may have started out based on Windows 7 it obviously made the transition to windows 10 satisfactorily. This Machine has been very good to me and I have taken excellent care of it as you can see in the description of how I have updated it and I keep it updated by being on the windows Insider preview channel because I like to stay on the leading edge of what’s going on.  Since the bios date is reflecting 2013 I really find it hard to believe that there would not be a bios update available to give me you EFI as opposed to leaving at legacy.

Is there anyway I can actually find out if there is a bios update actually available or force the HP website to give me a list of all of my drivers that are available including a bias update?

Oh, but no there are no worries, the problem also comes from my side ..
As I indicate in signature I use a translator, I am very bad in English (I come from the French forum died)
So for updates, I think we are actually talking about device drivers, and bios.
So indeed in the case of device drivers, this is a solution, but does not always work!
For the bios it is necessary to check the verion in place, but indeed, that given is the last!
So I should know now if there is a problem with the device drivers, because there it will be necessary to proceed in various ways, if there are no drivers available!
For bios, may not be useful to touch it so ..?
For the pilots, you have to try with the list under windows 8, some can work with windows 10!
As for updates, I can not answer for HP, but it depends on the models, sometimes we have recent updates, and for others much less.
After a certain lifespan, it no longer becomes interesting to develop drivers, they switch to newer models!

So for bios, there is nothing more than what I have indicated

I reviewed the link that you sent me for the bios that HP shows as last available for my unit. It is the same one I currently have so apparently nothing new is available. I was also informed in my other research I was doing simultaneous to this forum that if I wanted to do an update to the bios from Legacy to you we have a high it would require me to do a full and complete system wipe and re-install of windows something that I am completely unwilling to do because I have many programs (many is putting it politely and is an understatement) that I do not believe will survive having to be reinstalled for many reasons. I also would be concerned that if I had to do a wipe and reinstall I would have to start with Windows 7 all over again and then continue with doing the windows 10 upgrade and continue installing every single update that’s been issued since I originally upgraded to windows 10 what feels like a bazillion years ago. That would be arduous and I think I would rather have a tooth pulled without Novocain.

I do thank you for all of your help with this it was very educational even though it didn’t turn out the way I thought it would. There is much to be learned from the word no or for making a mistake that is not available to learn in life from getting it right the first time.

I may not have understood everything because of the translation!
But the question therefore does not arise, since there is no bios update available for the uefi ..
But yes, if there was modification, it is frop possible that windows can no longer start correctly, and that a complete reinstallation is necessary!
But I didn’t seem to have seen this type of situation, not to remember anyway ..
So I guess I answered all the questions?
If not, I'm still here ..
Otherwise, please mark my answer on the one hand for the effort made, but above all, it can help other people with the same concerns!
