I have a corrupted restore partition. I downloaded Cloud Recovery and installed it to 2 different USB drives. When trying to boot to them I always get a status 0xc0e90002 and cannot boot from USB drive.

All data are backed up if the drive needs to be completely redone from empty.

@KyleLeague, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

It sounds like you are encountering issues with the HP Cloud Recovery Tool and are unable to boot from the USB drives you created. Here are some detailed troubleshooting steps to help you resolve the 0xc0e90002 error and successfully boot from the USB drive:

1. Verify the USB Drive

  • Ensure Compatibility: Use a blank USB flash drive with at least 32GB of storage. Check that the USB drive is not defective. Try using a different brand or model of USB drive if you have one available.
  • Correct Formatting: Make sure the USB drive was correctly formatted during the recovery tool creation process. It should be formatted to NTFS.

2. Disable Secure Boot and Enable Legacy Mode

Sometimes the BIOS settings may prevent the system from recognizing the USB drive. Disable Secure Boot and enable Legacy Boot mode in your BIOS settings:

  • Access BIOS Setup:
    • Turn on or restart the computer and immediately press the Escape key repeatedly until the Startup Menu opens.
    • Press F10 to enter BIOS setup.
  • Disable Secure Boot:
    • Select System Configuration > Boot Options.
    • Set Secure Boot to Disabled.
  • Enable Legacy Mode:
    • Set Legacy Support to Enabled.
    • Save the settings and exit the BIOS setup.

3. Verify USB in Boot Order

Ensure your USB drive is set as the first boot device in the BIOS boot order:

  • Access Boot Options:
    • Turn on or restart the computer and immediately press the Escape key repeatedly until the Startup Menu opens.
    • Press F9 to enter Boot Device Options and select your USB drive.

4. Reset BIOS to Defaults

Sometimes resetting the BIOS to factory defaults can help resolve boot issues:

  • Reset BIOS to Factory Defaults:
    • Access the BIOS setup (as described above).
    • Select Main > Apply Factory Defaults and Exit or Restore Defaults (depending on the product).

The Cloud Recovery software did the partition/format in FAT32, with no formatting options available to me. Please resolve this conflict with your advice.

You sent the exact same answer, so I will ask the exact same question. The Cloud Recovery program partitions/formats in FAT32, with no way to change it. How to resolve this difference from your answer?

Hey @KyleLeague,

Thank you for your response

Thank you for the clarification! It sounds like the Cloud Recovery software you're using is automatically selecting FAT32 as the file system because it's determined to be the best option for the device you're recovering. Typically, recovery software selects FAT32 because it’s widely compatible with a variety of devices, especially older systems, or specific devices that require it for booting or recovery purposes.

I suggest you follow this guide for recovery: HP Consumer PCs - Using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool in Windows 11 and 10 | HP® Support
