Hi, I need to install Windows 8.1 on HP Pavilion x2 – 10-n010nw (ENERGY STAR) but I'm getting asked for product key even though it is embedded in BIOS. I've tried typing it in manually but it says that this key cannot be used for this version of the system. I'm using official ISOs downloaded from Microsoft, tried both regular and N versions. Notebook originally came with 8.1 but I no longer have recovery partition and need to do manual install. Can someone tell me how to do it?

Hi:
Unfortunately, the specs do not indicate what version of W8.1 your notebook came with.
HP Pavilion x2 - 10-n010nw Product Specifications | HP® Customer Support
If you tried the plain W8.1 and W8.1 N versions, that only leaves the W8.1 Single Language option.
So, the only suggestion I can offer would be to try that version.
There is one other version that may have come with the notebook and that is W8.1 with Bing and there are no ISO files for that.
However, usually the product specs indicate that the PC came with W8.1 with Bing.

You're very welcome.
You should be able to select any language option you are offered, but once you do, that is the language you have to use.
You can't change the language unless you reinstall Windows again.
I find it very odd that you can't select Polish as a language since the 'nw' suffix in your notebook's model number indicates it was meant for use in Poland.

W8.1 with Bing is the correct version. I was looking through the docs over the weekend and found it in the maintenance document. They should be more open about it, it would save me some trouble if they've shown the specific version on the product page. Thanks again for your help.

You're very welcome.
If you had ever upgraded the notebook to W10 previously, you can reinstall W10 for free and it should work.
You select the version of W10 (W10 Home), then when asked to enter a product key, you select the 'I don't have a product key' option and Windows will install and then activate after you are connected to the internet.
