HP Envy 17" Notebook Product #W0U97AV
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Something is causing massive-sized temp files to fill up HDD.  It will consume 200 GB in a few days. In looking at properties of some of the files in the folder the content is "Intel(R) Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework Manager".

This happened last year and when I uninstalled and reinstalled Bitdefender Internet securiy the problem stopped. It's now back. I can repeat the fix before but I don't think Bitdefender that is the cause it's just the symptom.

Anyone have an idea what's going on?

Thanks,

Frank

@Buoyguy

Sorry, have no idea what is filling up the drive to the tune of 200GB or more!

If it was 20-30GB, my guess would be Windows Updates, but with that much stuff, I have no clue.

However, here are some things you can do to recover some of the disk space:

Thanks for the detailed input WAWOOD, I'll save those links.  Although I am able to clear the temp files out manually, or use Windows Cleanup, my main goal is to determine WHY this is happening. What is there about the Intel Framework Manager that promotes these huge /temp files?

Hello @Buoyguy

May I just add to what @WAWood  wrote :

You can download and run the free app call TreeSize (or TreeSizeView) - portable from here >> https://www.jam-software.com/treesize_free/

Make sure you run it as Administrator. It can scan your entire HDD in a couple of seconds and show you details about what and where is the most data on your PC. Having this information you can think what might be causing the extra files and where these may be from.

Also, the files may really be caused by the antivirus and since you already fixed it before by uninstall (reinstalling) BitDefender, I would definitely give this a try.
