Hi @Bruecken,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with your Windows 10 laptop and the card reader. Error code 0x800f0805 can be quite frustrating, but I'll do my best to help you resolve the issue. Here are some steps you can try.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Make sure your laptop is connected to the internet.
  • Go to "Settings" > "Update & Security" > "Windows Update."
  • Click on "Check for updates" and allow Windows to download and install any available updates.

Use Windows Update Troubleshooter:

  • Go to "Settings" > "Update & Security" > "Troubleshoot."
  • Under "Get up and running," select "Windows Update" and run the troubleshooter.

Manually Install the Card Reader Driver:

  • Visit our HP website and look for the drivers section.
  • Find the card reader driver for your laptop model and download it.
  • Install the driver by following the on-screen instructions.

Run DISM and SFC Scans Again:

  • Open Command Prompt as an administrator (search for "Command Prompt," right-click, and select "Run as administrator").
  • Run the following commands one by one.

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
sfc /scannow

  • Allow both processes to complete, and then restart your computer.

Perform a Windows 10 Repair Install (In-Place Upgrade):

  • Download the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool from the official Microsoft website.
  • Run the tool and select "Upgrade this PC now."
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to perform an in-place upgrade, which will reinstall Windows 10 without losing your files and applications.

Backup and Fresh Install:

  • If none of the above steps work, consider backing up your important files and performing a clean installation of Windows 10. This will remove all software and settings, so make sure to back up your data first.

Remember that performing a clean installation should be a last resort, as it involves reinstalling all your software and configuring your system settings from scratch.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
