An inplace upgrade is simply upgrading Windows 10 to the latest and is completely free if you are already running windows 10.

I have done this before to fix problem on my personal laptop and it has worked.
Simply download the file on another computer and put it on a flash drive. From there if possible plug the laptop that is having problems into an ethernet so that it is online the whole time while the inplace upgrade is taking place. plug the flash drive with the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool into the laptop that is having problems and use task manager to launch the media creation tool. From there follow the instructions to upgrade the computer to the newest version of Windows 10. If you need any help please let me know.

I will do that as soon as I can free up some time to devote to the process. I have downloaded the file to a usb device. Now to get the last part of seeing what needs to be done about booting from that usb. I have to look at the machine's nomenclature.

the file is not a bootable file. When you plug the usb into the computer that you are having problems on you are going to have to run that file from within Windows and choose the option to upgrade this pc.

Getting to the run box is the problem. I put win7 shell over 10 before 10 made the change to include the type in window. So it has this hiccup starting and no typing in access unless I quit explorer which is the crux of my delima.
