Hello after a long time.
I upgraded from Win 10 to Win 11 23H2 - 64-bit on my two HP dv6700. The upgrade went without a problem, but the system freezes partially.
If the display goes out after the set time, then it is not possible to click on opened windows and launch other applications.
You need to press Ctrl+Alt+Del and call up the task manager menu, then the system returns to usable mode and you can continue.
The worst thing is when the updates are configured when the laptop is turned off or restarted, when the screen goes out, it is no longer possible to get the computer to work and I can't see the configuration progress at all.
The only solution here is to set the screen to turn off for a longer time or set it not to turn off at all. Otherwise, the system seems to be working fine.
Could there be a problem with the graphics card driver? I have an NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS.
Thanks in advance if anyone knows how to solve this.

@mirkrat, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Addressing Freezing Issues on Unsupported Hardware with Windows 11!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
When your HP dv6700 system, upgraded from Windows 10 to Windows 11, experiences partial freezing, particularly when the display goes out after a set time, there are various troubleshooting steps you can take to try to resolve the issue. Here are a few suggestions:
Perform a Hard Reset
Start by performing a hard reset to clear all the information stored in your computer’s temporary memory:
- Turn off the computer.
- Disconnect the AC adapter.
- Remove any external devices (discs, USB flash drives, etc.).
- Press and hold the power button for approximately 15 seconds.
- Reconnect the AC adapter and turn on the computer.
Adjust Power Settings
Improper power settings can affect system performance:
- In Windows, search for and open Power, sleep and battery settings.
- Set the Power mode to 'Balanced' or 'Best power efficiency'.
Close Unresponsive Applications
Using Task Manager to close applications that are not responding:
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc keys to open Task Manager.
- Look under the Processes tab for applications that have stopped responding.
- Select the unresponsive application and click End Task.
Update Your BIOS
Ensure that your BIOS is up-to-date as outdated BIOS can lead to compatibility issues:
- Go to the HP Software and Driver Downloads page.
- Navigate to the product page for your HP dv6700.
- Check for and install available BIOS updates. Ensure the version applies to your model and is newer than the current version.
Update Graphics Driver
An outdated graphics driver can also cause system instability:
- Open HP Support Assistant or visit the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page.
- Search for the latest graphics driver specific to your device and install available updates.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!
